Oppgave:
Sølvrev was commissioned by Universal Music Norway / Plexus Records to create two music videos for RUBEN's songs "Mama Don't Know" and "Running". The videos were to create a dystopian and compelling fictional universe around RUBEN in which we could genuinely explore dark feelings and themes in a fresh and original way.
Løsning:
Drawing on the lyrics and themes of the songs, we created a story told across two videos, in which Ruben first explores his dark sides before escaping from both himself and the world in the second track. In Mama Don't Know we truly get under Ruben's skin – literally – and portray the transformation Ruben goes through as he deals with these complex and dark feelings, ultimately accepting himself for who he truly is. By drawing on references ranging from Kafka to Twin Peaks and District 9, and working closely with the VFX team at Steamheads, we created a unique and alternative universe full of visual treats.
Resultat:
The result is a raw, dark and honest portrait of Ruben, revealing a side of him and a deeper layer that his listeners had not seen before. Both videos were received with great enthusiasm, and both were nominated for the Golden Chair for best music video at the Short Film Festival in Grimstad 2021.
Begge videoene har blitt tatt imot med storm, og ble begge to nominert til Gullstolen for beste musikkvideo ved Kortfilmfestivalen i Grimstad 2021.
